EUROPEAN HEALTH PROGRAMME

Today the public health’s goal is a vital concern of the European Union. The BSE’s crisis (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy), the epidemiological risk (AIDS’s syndrome, avian flu) and the ageing population in EU made indispensable a cooperation nation-European in terms of health.

 

The new Programme of Community Action in the field of Health 2008-2013 came into force on 1st January 2008. This follows the first Programme (2003-2008) which financed over 300 projects and others actions.

 

The programme objectives are:

 

  • to improve citizens' health security and safety 

  The EU and Member States intend to improve the act’s coordination in order to consolidate their responsiveness at the hands of health threat. Acts concerning this first goal centre on the blood, cellular tissue and cells too.

 

  • to promote health to improve prosperity and solidarity

The aim is to favour the continuation of active life and contribute to reduce inequalities in the field of health. So acts will lead on the health determinants such as nutrition, alcoholism, tobacco and drug consumption…

 

  • To generate and disseminate health knowledge.

The EU privileges exchange knowledge on rare disease or health of children in order to gather central information of Members States. Besides it continue to develop indicators as well as means of disseminating information to citizens

 

 
The budget proposed for this programme is € 321.5 million. Participation and consultation with stakeholders will be promoted too.
